A Memory of Light

🌤️ A Memory of Light 30 April 2023

There are no endings, and never will be endings, to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was an ending.

A Memory of Light is, in itself, a vast and epic tale that concludes the Wheel of Time series excellently. Every outstanding thread from the previous books was closed including many of Min's visions while sufficient mystery and fantasy remains to draw the reader back for another read. I might take a while before I take the series up on that, but I have no doubt I will re-read it again in the future!

I laughed and cried (for the first time in a very long time) at multiple scenes. I was absolutely riveted by the multiple battle scenes especially those at the Field of Merrilor with Mat's heroic commandeering and the courage and relentless hope that every major character threw at Demandred. I was shocked multiple times by different twists in the story and so in awe of the pattern that was woven so elegantly by Brandon Sanderson to bring together Robert Jordan's story and what felt like the ultimate fulfilment of the Prophecies of the Dragon. The philosophical nature of the Dark One and Rand's confrontation will likely take me at least another read to really make my mind up about.

There is not much more I want to write about this final piece in the series, other than to say that as long and sometimes tedious as the Wheel of Time books are, there is nothing as satisfying as reading an epic where characters develop and grow in an absolutely beautiful and boundless world to come together in a last stand to return balance and peace. And then, the Wheel of Time turns.
